Abbeys, churches, chapels, basilicas, collegiate churches, convents, priories, hermitages, monasteries… it’s difficult to do a brief overview of the ecclesiastical buildings in the Vosges (even more so because there also the calvaries and wayside crosses to take into consideration)! |

There are several dozen that it’s worth going out of your way to see. In fact, that’s an advantage: you scarcely have to go out of your way, wherever you are in the department, there will be one worth looking at close by! |
Amongst those that are most visited, the « musts » are without doubt the abbeys in the Rabodeau valley and the former principality of Salm and the Bois Chenu Basilica built at the place where Joan of Arc heard her famous "voices"; but there are many others worth seeing for their architectural beauty.

The Cordeliers Convent and the two churches in Les Thons
(also the superb feudal pigeon loft).
An interesting point: the right wing of the les Thons stately home was bought by a rich American just after the First World War. He had it dismantled and then rebuilt in the New York suburbs.
